CIA Model Town solves Roohi Bano’s son’s murder

Police believes Rohi Bano’s son killed by hired gun Staff Report LAHORE: The investigating police believe that a hired assassin killed prominent TV and film actress Rohi Bano’s only son Ali and the reason of murder was a property dispute. However, Bano disappeared after the burial as her house (8-B Gulberg III) is still locked. Model Town Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Intisar Hussain Jafery said the police had interrogated Ali’s three friends, because they were the last people who met him before his death, but still found nothing. Police said that during the preliminary investigation, it was found that Ali and his friends drank liquor and used hash and morphine. It was also revealed that Ali and one of his friends were running a real estate business in the Defence Housing Authority. Police said that Ali had a dispute within his family over the distribution of inherited property in Gulberg. Model Town Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Sub Inspector Nawaz Cheema, who interrogated Ali and his friends during Amir Sindhu’s murder investigation on August 11, said that Ali told him that his maternal grandmother was murdered in Karachi over a dispute on inherited property. Cheema said that Amir Sindhu was a friend of Ali’s and his investigations were still in progress. ========= Wednesday, March 01, 2006 More Sharing ServicesShare | Share on facebookShare on twitterShare on linkedinShare on stumbleuponShare on emailShare on facebook_like| CIA Model Town solves Roohi Bano’s son’s murder * Arrests murderers of M Anwar Qureshi and 11 accomplices Staff Report LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Model Town has solved the murder of Ali, son of prominent film star Roohi Bano, four months after his murder, police told Daily Times on Tuesday. Police claimed that the culprits were cell phone snatchers and that they had confessed to having murdered Ali and to have committed several other crimes. Ali was shot dead outside his friend’s house (89-B) in Gulberg III on November 06, 2005. Ali’s friends Zahid, Farrukh and Sohail told police that they were pushing Ali’s car, which was out of order, when two unidentified motorcyclists snatched their cell phones and shot Ali dead when he tried to resist. Police did not believe their story, registered a case on the complaint of Ali’s uncle Rafi and interrogated all of Ali’s friends. During interrogation police found that in 2003 one of Ali’s friends, Amir Sindhu, had disappeared and was found murdered in the tribal areas. Lahore Police brought Sindhu’s body to his house and registered a case with Nishtar Colony Police Station against the unidentified murderers. During investigations, Sindhu’s father told police that his son’s friends were the main suspects, which prompted police to take all of Sindhu’s friends including Ali and Bobby, filmmaker Iqbal Hassan’s son, into custody, but released them for lack of evidence. Later, Ali’s grandmother was murdered in Karachi and Ali told police that she was murdered over property. Police found that Ali ran a real estate business in Defence Housing Authority in partnership with a friend. Police also found that Ali had a dispute with the family over inherited property in Gulberg. Later, the investigation was given to Umar Virk, CIA deputy superintendent of police (DSP), who ordered Inspector Fiaz to investigate the issue. The inspector declared Ali’s friends innocent and checked Ali’s cell phone records. He also found that someone was using the cell phone of Ali’s friend Zahid, which had been snatched when Ali was shot dead, and arrested the person. Investigations led police to Joseph Masih, who sold the chip of Zahid’s cell phone. CIA arrested Joseph from Basti Syedan Shah and interrogated him. Joseph confessed to his crime, saying he and Muhammad Ramazan snatched Zahid’s cell phone and killed Ali when he resisted. Police arrested Ramazan and both accused (Joseph and Ramazan) said they had also killed Usman after snatching his cell phone while making a getaway after killing Ali. Usman was the nephew of DSP Khalid Masood. The accused confessed to 113 crimes (only 62 were registered with police), which they committed in various parts of Lahore. Police also seized stolen cell phones worth Rs 600,000 and weapons including a pistol and 10 bullets. Special teams were raiding locations to arrest Shahbaz Ahmad, one of Joseph’s accomplices. Another CIA Model Town team solved the murder of prominent lawyer M Anwar Qureshi and arrested 13 people (two of whom were directly involved in the murder) involved in several crimes including robberies in various locations of Lahore. Police arrested the men after special directions from Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. Two unidentified men (later identified as Sabir and Amin alias Mina Kumhar) entered M Anwar Qureshi’s residence in 133-G, Model Town, on November 2, 2005, and after a scuffle shot Anwar Qureshi dead. Both men escaped the scene. Model Town Police tried to trace the culprits, but failed. Meanwhile, Lahore’s lawyers staged a three-day-long strike against the murder, which prompted the chief minister to take notice of the incident, on which investigations were transferred to CIA Model Town and DSP Umar Virk formed a special team to solve the case. Investigators immediately prepared the sketches of both murderers and plainclothesmen were asked to comb areas around Model Town to search for people who resembled the sketches. Investigators found a man who looked like one of the sketches in the Chungi Amarsadhu area. Investigators then looked for men living alone in rented houses in the Chungi Amarsadhu area and took into custody Sabir alias Pia from a room he rented in the Kot Lakhpat Fruit Market. Sabir confessed to committing several crimes including robbery-murders, murders and robberies in various locations of Lahore. Sabir also told investigators about accomplice Zafar Iqbal alias Zafri, who was picked up. Zafar confessed to picking up a prostitute, Shamim, from Chungi Amarsadhu bus stop on November 24, 2005. Zafar said Sabir and him took her to a rented house in Sitara Colony and murdered her with the help of accomplice Iqbal Wattoo after scuffling over money. He said they (Sabir, Iqbal and him) then threw her body in a deserted place. Investigators also arrested 11 others including Muhammad Amin alias Mina Kumhar, Iqbal Wattoo, Abid Hussain, Muhammad Munawwar alias Nehri, Irfan alias Dungi, Khurram Shehzad, Muhammad Asif, Waqas alias Vicky, Aqeel Ahmad, Nadeem alias Noni and Tahir alias Billu.
