Kuwaiti Governor Discusses Opportunities in Karbala

The Governor of the Kuwaiti Capital, Sheikh Ali Al-Jaber, visited soutwestern Iraq’s holy city of Karbala on Sunday to discuss the implementation of several investment projects in the Province, its Governor, Amaluddin al-Hir, said on Sunday.


“We have conferred with a Kuwaiti Delegation, who visited Karbala, under leadership of the Kuwaiti Capital’s Governor, Sheikh Ali Al-Jaber, accompanied by a number of the Kuwaiti Bukhamsin Company officials,” al-Hir told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding that the delegation had expressed wish to implement several housing, hotel, industrial and health projects in the Province.


Karbala Governor also said that “the Governor of the Kuwaiti Capital had reconfirmed the depth of the historic relations between Kuwait and Iraq,” and he expressed a desire to “close the page of the past, which he described as having been a dark period.”

Iraq’s Biggest Power Plant – Calik Energy Signs Contract

A Turkish energy company signed a deal with the Iraqi government on Thursday to build a power plant at a cost of $445.5 million [521 billion Iraqi dinars].


The deal between Turkey’s Calik Enerji and the Iraqi Electricity Ministry is for the construction of the 1,250 megawatt al-Hayrat [Khayrat?] plant in Karbala.


Calik Holding CEO, Ahmet Calik, and Iraq’s Deputy Electricity Minister, Salam Kazzaz, penned the agreement in a ceremony in Baghdad with the participation of Iraqi Deputy Premier for Energy, Hussain al-Shahristani, and Turkey’s Ambassador to Iraq, Murat Ozcelik.


Speaking at the ceremony al-Shahristani said the al-Hayrat plant would be biggest in Iraq when completed in two years time, adding that the plant would create 500 new jobs.


Al-Shahristani said the Iraqi government would open more tenders for the construction of two power plants in Mosul.

A Chinese delegation has visited the Shiite city of Karbala, and expressed its readiness to conduct several projects there, Karbala’s first deputy governor said on Thursday.


“The delegation, led by a Chinese businesswoman who owns a number of industrial companies, has finished its visit to Karbala,” Abbas al-Moussawi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


The delegates have been updated with the security and economic situation in the city, Moussawi pointed out.


The delegation expressed its willingness to carry out several projects, which it said will provide job opportunities for local residents.


The holy Shiite city of Karbala lies 110 km southwest of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.






According to Aswat Al Iraq, Karbala’s local authorities reached an agreement with a delegation of Chinese firms to execute a number of residential projects in the province at a total cost of ID80 billion ($67 million).


“The Chinese delegation will be granted investment permission within the coming days,” a local source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Monday.


He noted that the Chinese delegation has been in Karbala for a few days.

Chinese Firm Signs MoU to Conduct 3 Projects in Karbala

A Chinese company delegation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to carry out three housing and commercial projects in Karbala, a local media official said on Wednesday.


“The delegation has finished a few day visit to al-Hindiya district (20 km north of Karbala), where it was acquainted with the investment projects that can be carried out by the company in the city,” Mohammed Abd Zayd told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


The memorandum includes the establishment of residential compounds, a shopping mall and an oil factory.





UAE Company to Invest in Karbala

A UAE company has agreed to build a residential and commercial compound in Karbala, the chairman of the Karbala council said on Monday.


“A delegation from a UAE company has wrapped up its several-day visit to Karbala, during which it expressed an interest in implementing tourism and hotel projects in the province, as it has done in a number of other Arab countries,” Mohammad Hamid al-Moussawi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


“The company will implement two projects; the first is a large shopping mall, while the other is a residential compound,” he added.

Three delegations of Arab and foreign companies have visited Karbala to implement investment projects in it, a media spokesman for Karbala investment commission said on Wednesday.


“The delegations visited the city to be acquainted with the investment opportunities and its needs,” Raed al-Asali told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


“The companies are; a Bahraini interested in implementing housing and industrial projects and a German company, specialized in agricultural projects, while the third is a Russian company which is specialized in hotel, agricultural and industrial projects,” he added.


Karbala is 110 km southwest of Baghdad.

A delegation representing two Turkish companies expressed readiness to implement health and housing projects in Karbala, the head of the Karbala council said on Tuesday.


“The Turkish delegation presented housing and health proposals to be implemented in Karbala, including the establishment of two specialized hospitals,” Mohammad al-Moussawi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


“The local government will approve these projects if the Investment Commission gave the green light and will allocate the necessary plots for them,” he added.

“The projects were executed by local companies and contractors,” Dr. Abbass Nasser Hassani told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


He said that the projects were funded by the 2009 budget to develop regions.

Romanian Companies Building in Karbala

Karbala’s Investment Commission signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Saturday with eight Romanian companies to implement a number of housing, agricultural and industrial projects in the province.


“The projects includes the construction of 1,000 building units over an area of 10 hectares [40 donums] equipped with all facilities as well as the building of a farm for cow husbandry and animal fodder,” Tarrad al-Asali told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


Another MoU was signed to implement a project to build a waste-recycling plant, and a facility to pave roads without creating dust,” he added.

German House-Building in Karbala

German companies have offered to build 1,000 low-cost housing units in Karbala within an integrated housing neighborhood project for a total cost of $16.5 million, according to a report from Aswat al-Iraq.


“A delegation representing a German consortium offered to Karbala’s Governor Amal al-Din al-Hirr, and Provincial Council Chief Muhammad Hameed al-Moussawi, a project consisting of 1,000 low-cost housing units, each consisting of three rooms,” Emad Muhammad Hussein, Karbala’s Information irector, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.


The chairman of the board of the German consortium said the delegation was acquainted with conditions in the city and was keen to implement the project, which would be located near the green belt southwest of Karbala city.


“The contract will be signed during the next few days ,” he added.

New Industrial Development in Karbala

The Karbala Investment Commission has granted an investment license to an Iraqi company to build an industrial compound at a cost of $39 million, the chairman of the KIC said on Wednesday, according to a report from Aswat al-Iraq.


“The KIC gave an investment license to an Iraqi company to implement a project to set up a compound for construction-related industries … The project will be implemented at a cost of more than $39 million on 50 donums [12.5 hectares] in western Karbala”, Raed al-Asli told the agency.
