Three activists each of ANP, MQM shot dead in Karachi

Staff Report

KARACHI: At least seven people, including three Awami National Party (ANP) and three Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activists and a policeman, were gunned down in various target killing incidents in different parts of the metropolis on Wednesday.

All three ANP workers were separately shot dead in Pehlwan Goth in Gulistan-e-Johar Police Station’s precincts.

An ANP spokesperson, Qadir Khan, said the culprits first killed Khayal Wazeer, cousin of a local ANP leader, Liaquat Bangash, and then kidnapped and shot dead Saleem Khan, while Shahid Ghani was killed when he was on his way to the funeral prayers of Wazeer and Saleem Khan.

The ANP accused a Pakhtoon criminal group, headed by Muddasir, of the three killings and nominated them in the case. It also staged a protest demonstration over the killings and blocked traffic in Gulistan-e-Johar and on the Sharah-e-Faisal for hours.

The ANP activists pelted stones on passing vehicles and burnt tyres on roads. The intense aerial firing also caused suspension of routine life in the locality. Meanwhile, Shakir Ali, 50, a MQM worker and a land department official, was killed and three party workers were injured in Manghopir police limits.

A bullet-riddled body of a MQM worker was found from a river within the limits of Khokhrapar Police Station on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Adil, 28, son of Abdul Sattar, a resident of Mominabad, Malir. Police officials said that his body was found from an empty plot situated near his house. They confirmed the affiliation of the victim with the MQM and said unidentified culprits shot him dead and later dumped his body at an abandoned place. The victim used to work in a telecommunications company.
The police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons and initiated further investigation.

Tension engulfed Khokhrapar after the incident as shops and markets were closed due to an uncertain situation.

Separately, a MQM worker, Sajjad Ahmed, was shot dead near Jauhar Chowrangi in the limits of Sharah-e-Faisal Police Station.
Meanwhile, a police Head Constable Rana Sohail alias Akhri Baloch, 38, was gunned down in the limits of Orangi Town Police Station.
