Shots were fired after a fight broke out at a party in the Defence area, over who would enter the premises first.

KARACHI: Six people, including the grandson of former chief of Jamhoori Watan Party Nawab Akbar Bugti, were killed in a firing incident in the Defence area of Karachi late Sunday night.

The incident took place outside house no. 121, on 7th street, Khayaban-e-Rahat in Defence Phase VI, at around 2am.

At the time of the incident, a dance party was taking place at the residence of Nasir. Two groups clashed at the entrance of the house, and a scuffle broke out over who would enter the premises first. The groups opened fire at each other, killing six people and injuring nine others.

According to District Superintendent Police (DSP) Gizri Zameer Abbasi, the dead have been identified as Talha Bugti, Iqbal, Kamran, Moon and Joseph. One girl was also killed in the incident. Her name could not be verified, but she was referred to as Bunty in the police report.

The injured include Zeeshan Ziauddin, Zaid Fazl, Faraz Ameer, Irfan Adnan, Qamar, Shahbaz, Bilal and Essa.

The police reached the area 30 minutes after the firing occurred, and confiscated equipment from the premises. This included lights, liquor, the the DJ’s equipment.

Police also confiscated arms and ammunition from the premises. According to evidence found at the site, police said that 9MM pistols, Kalashnikovs and SMGs were used by the groups during the firing incident.

Three cars have also been impounded by the police.

The police has taken the owner of the house for questioning, and are searching for Arif Roger, the main accused in the incident.

What’s so sad about it??? “Those who live by the sword, die by the sword.” This kid-Bugti was a manifestation of the upper elite drunk with power and looted money showing their muscles by shoving and harassing common folks in a lawless land with no security. Stories about his stealing cars and hard-muscling people around the neighborhood were well known. Shame on his father for not keeping him under control while he lived.

Do not confuse this incident with the legitimate aspirations of the Baluch people. If we love Pakistan we must support the Baloch and love them. They are our brothers.

It did not happen outside the house but inside. The police is lying to protect the tenants and all the guests in the house. Why is the police harassing the owner of the house when as per law it is the occupant who is responsible for the safety and security of the house under the lease?? If it happened outside the house then why is the police searching the owner?? That is like arguing that the Chief Minister of Sind is responsible for what happens on the streets of Karachi. And he is under law, so why is the police not arresting the Chief Minister. Who is Arif Roger?? The local Al Capone??

Lives of those who live in Defence Housing Authority are in danger every Saturday night, when these dance parties are held. I have myself seen these guys driving wildly and firing in the air on their way to the party venue. But because those who hold these parties and those who attend them belong to the feudal class, police is not able to take any action.

Very sad to hear this news..Thou not for the bugtis grandson but for the other’s who got killed and injured… This has been happening for the longest time in karachi. These guys have a habit of gate crashing private/paid events and when they are refused entry they show off their power with such sophisticated weapons…What goes around comes around!!!

Sorry to learn that such an incident happened in the area where elite are residing.

In dance parties only stags are invited This is a horrible example set last night for all such parents who do not care about their young kids and give them money, cars and security guards to do whatever they want to do.

It is an established fact that when children are given unlimited money with powers, they become answerable to none including the police and their parents.

In such cases police also become helpless. If police warn the nasty kids, they are called by their parents and higher-ups to leave the kids alone or face dire consequences.

According to the reports, the two groups were from Bugti and Pagara families.

The responsibility lies on the shoulders of the deceased and injured kids and their parents as well as on the society.

Gun is power and power is gun, which when used kill or injured the people facing the gun.

The society should come forward to eradicate the menace of gun culture and hold the parents responsible giving unlimited money, powers, guns and body guards to their kids.

DHA shoot-out: At least 8 foreigners attended fated party

KARACHI:

At least eight women, all foreign nationals, escaped the shoot-out at the ill-fated party at DHA’s Khayaban-e-Rahat on June 26 that left six people dead, including Baloch sardar Nawab Akbar Bugti’s grandson Taleh.

A foreign national who was at the party and did not wish to be named, said she was there as were two young women from Finland, two from Russia, one each from China, the Phillipines, Estonia and Sri Lanka. All of them are in their 20s and are in Pakistan to work with high-profile companies on a student exchange/internship programme. Even though at least two weeks have passed since the incident, the foreigners are still badly shaken up and traumatised.

Michelle (not her real name) says they went to the party along with two Pakistani friends who work in the advertising industry. They did not know anything about the hosts or the people there. “We were just told that there was a party going on and we were invited,” she said. “It was only later that night once we had escaped that we found out that some political figure we never heard of before [Taleh Bugti] was among the dead.” They all went numb when they learnt that six people had died.

Aside from these women, there were hardly any others at the venue, which was packed with mostly “weird-looking guys in graffiti t-shirts”. “They probably thought we were some high-class foreign hookers in short skirts and low-cut shirts,” she said with regret.

The women are worried about their safety now as men at the party took photographs of them while they were on the dance floor. ‘Like a G6’ was playing, Michelle recalled. They are scared that the police or authorities might cause trouble for them or possibly make the already hard visa renewal process even harder.

According to Michelle, their group had arrived at the party just a little before 1am. “I’ve been to many parties here in Karachi that are mostly held in homes with a few close friends invited, but this one was a very elaborate arrangement, similar to the one you find at the American club parties.”

Michelle and the other women decided to make an exit as they started to be surrounded on the dance floor. They became aware of a commotion at the single entrance and exit gate where armed guards were trying to push away a crowd that had gathered outside.

The moment the women stepped out and sat in their cars, the gunshots rang out. “The people who were trying to rush in, then went running in the opposite direction,” she recalled. “Since we were split into two groups, I was worried that our friends may still be inside.” However, they all returned unharmed.

“We could have been among the dead too if we had delayed leaving by even a minute,” she said in horror.

Since the incident, the women have changed their locks and have stopped inviting people they do not know to their residence. “We’ve made some new rules among ourselves, the first one being never to go to a party here unless you know the host.”

Meanwhile, police have made little headway in apprehending the main accused. Gizri DSP Zameer Abbasi admitted that Arif Rajarr, whose guards allegedly opened fire on Bugti, had escaped from the city. “He may be out of town, but eventually he will be caught in our dragnet,” he told The Express Tribune. Apart from Rajarr, the police are hunting for his accomplice Mushtaq, Bugti’s brother Zamraan and his guards.

According to the First Information Report filed by the police on behalf of the State, the entire blame has been put on deceased Taleh Bugti and all the people who accompanied him to the party, including his brother Zarmaan, cousin Zahid Butt, Umair Yusuf, Rehan Rajput, Ghaffar, Bilawal and six others. Arif Rajarr and his friends, Dr Iqbal, Kamran Gul alias Noon, Sameer Baloch, Waseem, Mushtaq, DJ Savvy, Ghayas and his armed guards have also been nominated in the FIR.

The police had produced two suspects, Muhammad Waseem and Zahid Butt, before a judicial magistrate and acquired remand. However, apart from them, no further arrests were made. Police believe that Rajarr is probably hiding in his hometown in Sanghar.
