Goodwill Industries of Toronto

This past year didn’t start off well for hundreds of Goodwill employees in the GTA. On January 17, Goodwill Industries of Toronto, Eastern, Central and Northern Ontario abruptly announced that it was shutting down 16 stores, as well as 10 donation centres and two offices due to cash flow problems. At the same time, the board of directors resigned en-masse. CEO Keiko Nakamura briefly stayed on, but stepped aside in February after a trustee was assigned to handle the group’s bankruptcy. While plans have been announced to launch new Goodwill operations in the GTA, many of the workers from the former organization remain unemployed and owed unpaid wages.
