TRANSCRIPT - Australian authorities say the killer who shot dead a civilian police worker at close range in Sydney on Friday was a 15-year-old boy. The teenager was himself shot dead by police at the scene. Police say the boy came from an Iraqi-Kurdish background and was previously unknown to them or to counter-terrorism officials. Investigators say the shooting was politically motivated and therefore linked to terrorism. Australia's prime minister says the country's Muslims should not be blamed or vilified. (SOUNDBITE)(English) AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER MALCOLM TURNBULL SAYING: "It's a shocking crime. It was a cold-blooded murder targeting New South Wales Police Service. It was doubly shocking because it was perpetrated by a 15-year-old boy and it underlines the importance of families, communities, leaders, being very aware of whether your people are becoming radicalised. It's also important to remember that the Australian Muslim community will be especially appalled and shocked by this." Friday's attack was the latest in a series of incidents in Australia linked to radicalised youth. A boy the same age was given a life jail term in Britain the same day for inciting an attack in Australia. In September police shot dead a Melbourne teenager who stabbed two counter-terrorism officers.
