Facebook to Fact Box: Find Aisha Khan- 19 year old student missing in Kansas City

19-year old college student Aisha Khan has been missing for over 72 hours from the university where she was studying for an exam. Keep her in your duas. And please in the US, if any one harasses you or assaults you please call 911 first before you call your family. ============== "The Khan family is ecstatic. Their daughter is ALIVE and safe. I cannot begin to express how much of an honor it has been getting to know them, even if it were a tragic event that brought us together. Isn't that what humanity is? Caring, helping, giving selflessly to our brothers and sisters ESPECIALLY in time of grief? Our prayers that she would be located safely, regardless of background, have been answered. I witnessed something beautiful this past week. Our community -local, national and global- setting aside all differences and banding together as one for something. It was truly what kept everyone motivated and positive throughout the whole ordeal. I received phone calls from people I've admired my whole life asking ME how they could help with efforts. I also received calls and emails from priests, rabbis and imams across the nation letting us know that they are all praying for Aisha. It was absolutely beyond inspiring. Please, let us not forget what we have gained from this. We are at times vicious beings that are so quick to be critical and judgmental of others and this is certainly not a time to allow anything to dissolve this new-found global community, ESPECIALLY when the full story has yet to be announced. Aisha brought us together. All efforts, all sleepless nights and exhaustion was worth it. Why? Because we found her, and she is alive and NOT DEAD. Sincerest "thank you" to everyone for your selfless efforts. It has not gone unnoticed and each and every one of you was extremely crucial toward this goal. So proud of you all. Thank you." -via Sara Jawhari, media coordinator Student Aisha Khan found safe, was not held against her will Authorities say they have spoken with Olathe woman who disappeared Friday. By GLENN E. Khan was not abducted and apparently left voluntarily last week. Her family was at a nearby hotel organizing searches for her and were overcome with joy Wednesday night. Tears flowed and hugs were exchanged. "Our prayers have been answered," said Aamer Trambu, a spokesman for the family. Overland Park police said they had made contact with the 19-year-old Johnson County Community college student. Police verified "she was not abducted or held against her will," according to the news release. Khan apparently will not face criminal charges. She had left messages on family members' cell phones about 11 a.m. Friday, saying she had been accosted by a drunk man on the University of Kansas' Edwards campus in Overland Park. She said the man tried to kiss her, so she slapped him. Family members and friends said they could hear fear in the normally soft-spoken woman's voice. The voicemails sparked the frantic search. "At this time, there have been no criminal acts. Consequently, the investigation of Ms. Khan as a missing person is complete, and no further action will be taken," according to the news release. Trambu thanked the law enforcement officers and others who spent countless hours searching for Khan. "We are very, very grateful to all involved," he said. He declined to answer questions including what prompted her to leave such upsetting voicemails and then disappear. Instead, he focused on the relief of a family who had put up a $10,000 reward in an effort to find Khan. "Our family is very ecstatic about this," Trambu said. "Our prayers have been answered. We are glad she is safe and that she is well." Khan is a newlywed. She was married about five months ago. Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass thanked the FBI, the Olathe Police Department and other law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the search for Khan. Earlier Wednesday, about 100 volunteers had distributed fliers showing Khan wearing the black-and-white checkered coat she was seen wearing Friday just before she disappeared. Searchers had expanded the search area to include the Country Club Plaza and Lawrence. "It's been very difficult to be around them. They just want their daughter home. It's heartbreaking to be around the family," Sara Jawhari, a friend of Khan's, said before police announced she had been found. OPPD made the announcement at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. Watch It's Your Morning on KCTV5 starting at 4:30 a.m. for updates on this developing story. To read previous coverage, click here and here. Click here to see a Facebook created by Khan's family. In a statement on the page written just before midnight, the family wrote: "On behalf of the Khan family, we are ecstatic to announce that Aisha has been found. She is safe and is unharmed. The family is truly grateful to each and every one of your support and encouragement during this difficult journey. Thank you for your prayers, locally, nationally and from across the world. Thank you to all local and national media outlets for keeping her story alive. And most of all, thank you to the Overland Park Police Department who have put in hundreds of hours into finding her safely and to the hundreds of volunteers who dedicated their time around the clock toward the search efforts. Our prayers have been answered. Thank you all." Copyright 2011 KCTV. All rights reserved. Dave 17 mins ago+1 Share | Flag She was a runaway. Now, people will not look for a girl missing for real. SAD. simalgugu 1 hour ago+2 Share | Flag As people of the 21st century, we should distinguish between culture and religion. Often times, many people would inter-relate culture and religion and such is invalid, inaccurate and non-objective. If she (Aisha Khan) was "compelled" to have a marriage, this is totally against the Islamic concept of marriage which emphasizes on mutual understanding and recognition prior to marriage. If a woman objects to getting married and yet the family obliges her to do so, this is against the teachings of Islam for "there is no compulsion/forcing in religion" (Quran Ch.2 Verse 256). A woman is allowed to look at and talk to her potential spouse within the presence of families. If she objects, then let it be but surely compelling a girl to marriage is 100% against the teachings of Islam. This is where culture comes into play. It is the culture of the people not religion that is the defining role. Leah 1 hour ago+2 Share | Flag Gimme a break people, stop screaming arranged marriage! No one is going to admit to that. If this young woman was arranged and was so upset over it, there were a lot of other ways for her to get out of it. She's only been married 5 months at the age of 18 she had the right to stand up for herself and say NO! tintin 2 hours ago0 Share | Flag the unlawful compelling of a person through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse. So this is the definition of rape, in a vast majority of cases in the Pakistani and Afghani culture women are compelled to mary men chosen for them by their families and are not given a chance to know them. Marrying out of love is considered a despicable act and worthy of honor killing. I know this culture very well and can guarantee that the Khan family compelled her to. mary Waseem, I wouldn't be surprised if he is her cousin also, that is also very common there. If this girl had the courage to stand up against the horrific oppression done in the name of culture, tradition and religion she deserves our support and not anger. As is evident from the posts here that people from this culture feel very strongly against women exercising choice in matters of love. Michael 2 hours ago0 Share | Flag WHY ARE WE USING SO MANY CAPS? Leah 6 hours ago+5 Share | Flag Why is everyone harping on arranged marriages? Did it say somewhere in the stories that it was a fact that she was in an arranged marriage? Seems to me if she was in arranged marriage, and wanted out so badly, she would have taken off farther than a hotel in OP, Ks. All that aside, she is an adult and does not have to tell anyone where she is. I am glad that she was found alive and seemingly unharmed. Perhaps her family did not want to release the details of what happened to her, that is their right. There was a lot of manpower put into it and while that is the function of the police, it seemed to be totally un-needed in this case. And while I do not agree that there should be actual charges filed, I do think that fining them would be appropriate since they claim there was no foul play and she is supposed to be unharmed. pnphouck 6 hours ago0 Share | Flag Oh, I am so glad not in your shoes....The Universe will pay you back 10 fold.. for what you have done. tintin 6 hours ago+16 Share | Flag These girls of Mullah fathers forced into arranged marriages live a life that is worse than rape and abduction, can you imagine having sex with a man that you don't know, love or like and it is considered a grave sin to refuse his advances, so much so that angels curse at them all night for doing so.. these poor souls endure marital rape for decades..maybe Aisha is a hero, one of the few that had the courage to risk the wrath of her community and also possibly risk of honor killing..let us wait and see..let us use this energy to shed light to the atrocity of forced arranged marriage and marital rapes.. shavkat 6 hours ago+1 Share | Flag I'm glad that she was found safe as her family was hoping for. Thousands of people took to the Help Find Aisha Khan Facebook page to raise questions about why the 19-year-old did not contact police while officers put in over 400 man-hours looking for her. Aisha was believed to have been abducted when she vanished from the Edwards campus of the University of Kansas after claiming a frantic voice-mail on Friday that she had been attacked by a man. Safe: Aisha Khan, 19, has been found five days after she disappeared from the University of Kansas campus Distraught: Amanat and Fozia Khan were visibly upset as they asked for prayers from supporters during a press conference held to help find Aisha FBI agents had joined 10 police detectives, 50 police officers, and University of Kansas security guards in the massive search for the teenager, which received nationwide media coverage. Officers on horseback searched nearby woodland and volunteers handed out flyers. Her husband of five months, Waseem Khan, appeared on 'Good Morning America' yesterday where he begged kidnappers to let her go and her family offered a $10,000 reward for clues on her whereabouts. However, police said they were able to locate Aisha and she was not abducted or held against her will, according to KMBC, and despite the strange disappearance no criminal act occurred. The police investigation has been closed, but no other details on Aisha's whereabouts for the last five days or what happened have been released. A statement posted on the Help Find Aisha Khan Facebook page said: 'On behalf of the Khan family, we are ecstatic to announce that Aisha has been found' but the family are keeping quiet about the details of the disappearance. More... Missing college student, 23, survives TEN DAYS lost in Arizona wilderness As it became clear Aisha had not been abducted, hundreds of supporters of the group took to the page to demand answers to where Aisha had been. Some commented that the young bride had run away and or even faked her own kidnapping. One post by Rujina Aziz said: 'If she wanted some time out she should have left a note with the family, or contacted the police as soon as she knew that the whole state is looking for her. 'What a waste of time and effort and money, that could have been used in a real emergency.' In another post Hammad Mapara said: 'Aisha Khan, thanks for wasting everyone's time and taxpayers dollars in your search! Cathy Tomlin commented on the page saying: 'I just wish Aisha would come out and say what really happened ASAP. Desperate: Her husband of five-months, Waseem Khan, feared his bride had been abducted and appeared on TV yesterday where he begged kidnappers to let her go Favourite spot: The teenager had been studying at this secluded picnic table on Friday when she claimed to have been attacked by an 'intoxicated man' Mystery: The University of Kansas Edwards Campus is in Overland Park, on the border with Missouri. Mrs Khan was believed to have been kidnapped 'The family can't expect to ask people for help and then turn around and ignore everyone without an explanation.' Aisha' sister fazia Khan, 21, told ABCNews.com that the family had not seen or spoken to the teenager. 'Right now, at this point, all we know is that she's safe and sound and there are no further details,' she said. Aamer Trambu, a family friend, told The Kansas City Star: 'We believe our prayers have been answered. We do not have enough information yet, and we cannot tell you any more.' Aisha, who is studying for her finals, disappeared on Friday morning after she was allegedly assaulted on a secluded picnic table at the campus in Overland Park. After running away from a 'intoxicated man', she called her older sister Faiza and left a voicemail saying she had been attacked and that she was 'freaked out'. But when her sister arrived at the scene shortly after, all she found were her books and mobile phone on Aisha's favourite bench. The message said: 'My heart is pounding. I've never got this scared in my life. Pick up your phones. I am freaking out right now!' She made it clear she had slapped the man and run away, but it was unclear whether she thought he smelt of alcohol or marijuana. Questions: Previous supporters of the search have taken to the Help Find Aisha Khan page to demand answers on where she was for five days as police and volunteers looked for her Unexplained: Husband Waseem Khan, left, has been married to Aisha for five months Mother: Fozia Khan and her family offered a $10,000 reward for information that would give them a clue to Aisha's whereabouts after she disappeared for five days Authorities said workmen believe they saw someone matching Aisha's description walking away from the campus alone. Concerns have been raised that her five-month marriage had been arranged against her will, but they have been denied by friends. Emily Cheatham told ABCNews: 'She would not run away. She was happy with her life, with her new marriage. 'There wouldn't be any reason that she'd want to run away.' DEMANDING ANSWERS: WHAT FACEBOOK SUPPORTERS OF THE 'FIND AISHA' SEARCH ARE NOW SAYING Kathleen Walter-Brügger: 'LE could have used their time to find others who were truly missing instead of some mixed up girl . I would like to know where she was for 6 days worrying everyone so much. With all the media concentrating on her, she had to have known her "disappearance" would have been big news. It's not the 1960s tv anymore. This story was probably broadcast all over the world. Again , I am glad she's safe, but still, there are others who truly are in harm's way and need help as well.' Rujina Aziz: 'Thank goodness she's alive and well. But she is mature enough to understand the whole situation , if she wanted some time out she should've left a note with the family, or contacted the police as soon as she knew that the whole state is lookin for her. What a waste of time and effort and money, that could' have been used in a real emergency. I guess no one is to blame as they didn't know, but she is responsible! Cathy Tomlin: 'I just wish Aisha would come out and say what really happened ASAP. The family can't expect to ask people for help and then turn around and ignore everyone without an explanation. I do feel terrible for her parents, it was clearly not their fault and they should be the first ones getting an apology from her!' Bazil Farid:'I feel cheated. My immediate reaction of sorrow and sympathy was natural. However, after hearing the message and knowing more facts, I had doubts about the her story.' Hammad Mapara: 'Aisha Khan, thanks for wasting everyone's time and taxpayers dollars in your search!' Deen Islam: 'What Aisha did was immature and she did put the law enforcements and her supporters through a lot, but just imagine what the family is going through. They've been through severe torment for 6 days and it's not easy facing media, law enforcements and 30,000+ ppl who eagerly waited. for her to return.' Ayesha Pervez: 'Im leaving this page.... this girl made her family suffer so much without contacting them for almost a week... very immature indeed.' Haleemah Jackson: 'I'm glad she is well. It would be nice if we could get an explanation, but in the end that's up to the family. Clearly there's a little behind the the scenes drama that we weren't told about but it's ok, this could've ended horribly and it didn't, so for that we are grateful. Whatever the family decides to do (tell us or not) is up to them.'
