Bye-bye Shahristani?

Not sure we should build our expectations up too much yet. The story appears to have broken on 11/7/2011, but Sharistani's office issued an immediate denial then.

But it does suggest that there are moves afoot to discredit Mr S and highlight any dubious practices he may have been involved in.

if you google the MP Uday Awad, who seems to be spearheading the challenge to Shahristani, he comes up as a 'Prosecutor', so I imagine he has amassed enough evidence to unsettle Mr S.

Certainly, a very interesting development.

Don't get me wrong - this is Excellent news if it does move from 'accusation' to 'indictment', as Shahristani has been one of the main reasons that GKP's SP has been held back for such a long time IMHO.

However, I have ben around long enough in GKP to know that there are so many false dawns in Iraqi politics, and to recognise that they have a media which is both highly biased and filled with untrue stories, that I prefer to hear that Mr S has OFFICIALLY indicted before I raise my hopes too far.

What the story suggests to me is much more that the Energy Committee definitely WANTS to see him removed.

Something that therefore helps persuade him to that the time has come to leave gracefully would therefore be very welcome, and I suspect that this IS the beginning of a concerted campaign to persuade him to do so... especially with the Oil and Gas Law so near to agreement and apparently only Mr S standing in its way!

Thank you S_C for finding this news item - we should certainly all keep an eye out for further positive developments IMO.
