KARACHI:
Six people were shot dead and three others were injured after a wave a violence took over Karachi last night on Thursday.

At least 13 vehicles were also torched in the city late night.

Reports of shooting incidents were received from the areas of Garden, Sachal Goth and Malir.

Sindh education minister had announced that all public and private schools will remain closed today (Friday), while Karachi University (KU) and Dow Medical University postponed all exams scheduled to be held today. New dates for the exams will be announced later.

Altaf Hussain appeals to people to remain calm

Meanwhile Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain expressed grief over the killings.

In a statement from London, he said that it was unfortunate that terrorists were targeting the city and forcing shop keepers to close down shops.

Hussain appealed to party workers and the people of Karachi to remain calm in these circumstances.

Man killed, 7 buses set on fire in Karachi

A man was killed while another was injured in separate incidents of violence in the city on Thursday night. According to reports seven vehicles have also been set on fire in different parts of the city. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Talha. He was brought in a critical condition to the Civil hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A conductor of a minibus running on route G-7 was injured after unknown attackers opened fire. The injured man was identified as Israr, 35.

Shops closed after unidentified persons resorted to indiscriminate firing in various localities in the Sindh metropolis, including the limits of Brigade, Taimuria, Shanti Nagar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Burns’ Road and areas including Shipowner College, Saoora Chowk, Abdullah College and College Road.

A Route Number 20 bus was torched at the Boat Basin. The attackers were seen going towards Mai Kolachi. Another bus was torched in Ranchore Lines in Eidgah police station jurisdiction.

There have also been reports of firing from various parts of Hyderabad and there are reports of one person being injured as a result.

At least seven people were killed and ten cars were torched in Karachi when protests turned violent against the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss Deedar Shah. Traders, public transport, educational institutes and petrol pumps in Karachi reminded closed.


In Sindh, the PPP observed a strike on the decision to invalidate the appointment of NAB Chairman Deedar Shah. An appeal was made to traders and public transport department to remain closed. The bus stops in Karachi are crowded as there are hardly any buses on the roads.


Taxi and Rickshaw drivers exploiting the situation as they over charge the people. Sindh education minister announced that all schools and universities will remain closed and the exam will be postponed. Petrol pumps were also closed in part of the city.

Shooting in Karachi has claimed at least 18 lives in the last 24 hours while police have failed to arrest even a single suspect.

Six people were killed in the recent incidents of violence across the city on Sunday.

Most of the incidents were reported in Ranchor Line, SITE, Liaquatabad, Garden, Korangi, Kharadar and Abul Hassan Isphahani Colony.
An angry mob also set three cars and an office on fire in the Kharadar area against the killing of a political worker.

Police are investigating the matter but no suspects have been arrested so far.

Target killings: 12 killed in fresh Karachi violence

A fresh spate of violence in Karachi, following the Pakistan Peoples Party’s call on Thursday night for a day of protest, claimed 12 lives on Saturday – taking the 48-hour toll to 22.

At least 12 men were shot dead as targeted killings incidents flared up on Saturday despite the presence of the president and the prime minister in the city.

At least three vehicles and an office of Lyari’s Peoples Amn Committee were set on fire in Kharadar.

One man was killed on Thursday night and seven more lost their lives on Friday. In addition to the 12 shootings on Saturday, two victims injured in earlier shootings succumbed to their injuries.

Sindh Home Minster Dr Zulfiqar Mirza ordered law-enforcement agencies to take stern action against elements involved in the lawlessness but there was little to be done against drive-by shootings.

Sindh Inspector-General of Police Fayyaz Leghari sounded surprisingly relaxed when he described the “overall situation in the city [as] peaceful”.

“Only two incidents [Kharadar and Gulistan-e-Jauhar] occurred while the rest of the city remained under control,” he added.

As news of the killings spread, traffic snarled up on MA Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Sharae Liaquat, Rizvia, Pak Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Old Golimar, where men on motorcycles fired shots in the air.
Jodia Bazaar, Boulton Market, Jama Cloth, Motandas Market closed down.

Aerial firing terrified people in Saddar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Orangi Town.
