An agreement which provides for the acquisition of an 18.93 percent stake in Russian oil giant Rosneft by Qatar sovereign fund (QIA) is strategic, according to company spokesman Mikhail Leontyev.
He told RIA Novosti that QIA will become a major shareholder in Rosneft, along with the British oil company BP. Under the deal which was announced Friday, QIA will own 18.93 percent of Rosneft, becoming the third-largest shareholder after the Russian state, which holds 50 percent and, BP with 19.75 percent.
“A very strategically important deal took place... Qatar, represented by the QIA fund, becomes the direct shareholder and strategic partner for Rosneft,” Leontyev said, adding that the Russian company is satisfied with the decision.

“This is a completely different level of relations and cooperation. The market will see a range of bilateral international projects that we are going to develop together…” He explained that from the investment point of view, QIA is a very good partner with “obvious resources.”
In 2016, the consortium of QIA and the Swiss commodity trader Glencore bought a 19.5 percent stake in Rosneft. Later, they announced the sale of 14.16 percent of the shares in that stake to the Chinese energy company CEFC. The value of the transaction was estimated at $9.1 billion.
On Friday, the agreement with CEFC has been terminated, with the stake intended for sale to the Chinese firm to be transferred to a subsidiary of QIA. The companies have also announced dissolving the consortium. Glencore will receive €3.7 billion as a result of the transaction and keep the 0.57 percent stake in Rosneft. According to Leontyev, Glencore has successfully completed its participation in the transaction and, as a trader, it has other tasks.

MONTREAL - SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. says it has agreed to settle two class action lawsuits filed on behalf of shareholders in 2012 over allegations of misleading investors about its activities in Libya.
The company says it will contribute $88 million to the settlement of the cases in Ontario and Quebec.
The agreement is subject to court approval.
The lawsuits were among the consequences of alleged payments made by SNC-Lavalin to members, associates and agents of the Gadhafi regime to secure contracts for infrastructure projects in Libya.
The law suits were filed on behalf of SNC shareholders after its shares plunged in 2012 after the company announced an investigation into millions in undocumented payments and said its 2011 earnings would be less than expected.
The company says it has since initiated a series of significant changes and enhancements to reinforce its ethics and compliance procedures.

MIDEAST STOCKS-Qatar outperforms on hopes MSCI may boost weightings of bluechips
Reuters Staff
4 MIN READ
* Qatar National Bank, Industries Qatar surge
* Retail flows increase in Saudi ahead of MSCI decision
* Emaar supports Dubai shares
* Etisalat’s 2 pct gain lifts Abu Dhabi
By Saeed Azhar
DUBAI, May 14 (Reuters) - Qatar stocks rose more than one percent on Monday, leading among Gulf markets, as investors bet that index-compiler MSCI will increase weightings for some of the country’s top blue-chip companies in its emerging market index review.
Banking stocks drove Saudi shares higher as investors also hoped MSCI will upgrade Riyadh next month to emerging market status, following FTSE Russell’s similar decision in March.
Qatari stocks ended the day 1.3 percent higher, fuelled by 3.4 percent gains in Qatar National Bank and a 2.7 percent rise in Industries Qatar.
The two market heavyweights are among Qatari companies which have raised their foreign ownership limits to 49 percent from 25 percent, in an attempt to boost the weight of their stocks in emerging market indexes.
The results of MSCI’s semi-annual index review will be announced late on Monday and the changes will take effect at the end of this month.
The Saudi index closed 0.6 percent higher at 8,071 points, with Al Rajhi Bank - the kingdom’s second largest bank by assets and one of the main beneficiaries of a huge inflow of foreign money this year - up 1.3 percent.
Samba Financial Group gained 1.7 percent.
“We expect Saudi to do well in the run up to the MSCI announcement – the index closing above the 8000 mark is a healthy sign and we see retail as well as the opportunistic foreign investors to come in,” said Vrajesh Bhandari, a portfolio manager at Dubai-based Al Mal Capital.
“Banks reported good set of numbers. Going forward, we expect the sector to witness better loan growth post summer as well, benefiting from the substantial base of non-interest bearing deposits in this context of higher interest rates.”
In Abu Dhabi, telecommunications firm Etisalat rose 2.2 percent, helping the stock index to close 0.5 percent higher.
Investors saw a bargain in the stock after it lagged the index this year on concerns over earnings growth. It reported a flat first quarter net profit last month amid higher expenses and impairments. The stock is still down 6.6 percent so far this year.
Dana Gas dropped 2.8 percent, giving up much of its gains a day earlier when it surged 3.9 percent after announcing that it had struck a deal with creditors on restructuring $700 million of sukuk. This will possibly bring to an end a nearly year-long legal row that spooked investors in Islamic finance.
In Dubai, the index closed 0.5 percent up, helped by Emaar Properties which rose 1.2 percent. Larger gains were prevented by profit-taking in lender Emirates NBD which closed almost 2 percent lower.
Despite Monday’s losses, Emirates NBD is up 22 percent so far this year, outperforming a weak stock market that has been weighed down by property stocks.
SAUDI ARABIA
* The index rose 0.6 percent to 8,071 points.
DUBAI

Early life[edit]
Golshifteh Farahani was born on 10 July 1983 in Tehran, the daughter of Behzad Farahani, a theater director and actor, and Fahimeh Rahim Nia. Her sister is actress Shaghayegh Farahani.[2] Golshifteh, who started studying music and playing the piano at the age of five, later entered a music school in Tehran. At 14, Golshifteh was cast as the lead in Dariush Mehrjui's The Pear Tree. For that work she won the Crystal Roc for Best Actress from the International Section of the 16th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran.[3]
2012–present[edit]
The movie The Patience Stone (2012), directed by Atiq Rahimi from his novel, has received a majority of positive reviews[4] upon its release. One of her upcoming movies is Rumi's Kimia.[5] Still in development, it is directed by Dariush Mehrjui and is based on the novel "Kimia Khatoon", by Saideh Ghods. Golshifteh also starred in a 2012 César Award's video in the Most Promising Actors category.
In 2016, Golshifteh played Anna Karenina on stage in Paris and received great reviews from all the French press. In 2017, Golshifteh appeared in the fantasy film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, with Johnny Depp.[6]
Non-film work[edit]
Golshifteh Farahani during an interview with BBC Persian
Besides acting, Golshifteh is involved in environmental activities; she has also become an ambassador for fighting tuberculosis in Iran.[3] In Iran, Golshifteh was part of an underground rock band named "Kooch Neshin" (Nomads), which won the 2nd Tehran Avenue underground rock competition. Since leaving Iran, she has continued her music career as well, teaming up with another exiled Iranian musician, Mohsen Namjoo. Their album Oy[7] was released in October 2009.
In December 2014, she took the 6th place in the Annual Independent Critics Beauty List of 2014.[8] Golshifteh now lives in Paris, France.[9] Since moving to Paris, she has worked with directors including Roland Joffe, Hiner Saleem and Marjane Satrapi. She has also been a member of the international jury at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival.
Controversy[edit]
Following her acting in the U.S. film Body of Lies, she reportedly had been prevented by Iranian authorities from leaving Iran.[2] However, this was denied by her colleagues and she later appeared at the movie's premiere in the U.S.[10] Golshifteh's last film performance in Iran was in About Elly directed by Asghar Farhadi.[1]
In January 2012, it was reported that Golshifteh would not be welcome in her homeland after posing nude in the French Madame Figaro.[11] Britain's Daily Telegraph reported that government officials told Golshifteh that "Iran does not need actors or artists like you. You may offer your artistic services somewhere else."[12] A picture from the shoot on her Facebook page initiated a lively debate about her behavior.[13] She also appeared topless in a short black-and-white film by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, called Corps et Âmes, or Bodies and Souls.[14]

It is a mandatory document for Australia Awards South and West Asia Scholarship applications and must be submitted through OASIS before the application deadline.
The purpose of the DIP is to help you establish a link between your professional requirements (human resource gaps), the course of study in Australia and development priorities of Pakistan. The DIP seeks to articulate practical and realistic tasks showing how you plan to apply the skills and knowledge gained from your studies in Australia. You will also need to demonstrate the feasibility of the tasks you have identified by highlighting the possible constraints and the resources that you may need in order to implement them.
The DIP is updated at various points of the award cycle (Pre-Departure Briefing, Return Home Workshop, and Reintegration Workshop).

Double world chess champion won't defend titles in Saudi Arabia because of how they treat women
'I am ready to stand for my principles': Double world chess champion says she won't defend titles in Saudi Arabia because of kingdom's inequality
The Ukrainian, 27, will not travel to Saudi Arabia, where she wouldn't even be allowed to walk down the street unaccompanied

It takes years of work, days of staring at a board and hours of agonising over individual moves en route to becoming a world champion in chess.
And it takes only a short-sighted decision from its governing body to ensure you lose that crown.
"In a few days I am going to lose two World Champion titles - one by one," Anna Muzychuk says.
"Just because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia."
Muyzchuk is the defending world champion in two disciplines of speed chess - rapid and blitz. In rapid, each players gets 15 minutes to complete all of their moves and in blitz it is just 10.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian had been looking forward to defending her championships won in Doha, Qatar in 2016 but this year's competition, hosted by a political rival, has already faced far more opposition than any chess competition ever should.
For Muzychuk and her sister Mariya, another chess pro, their refusal is on the grounds that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not treat women with anything even approaching equality - a country where the sisters would not be allowed outside unless escorted by a man.
"[I decided] not to play by someone's rules, not to wear abaya, not to be accompanied getting outside, and altogether not to feel myself a secondary creature," she said in an emotional statement.
"Exactly one year ago I won these two titles and was about the happiest person in the chess world but this time I feel really bad. I am ready to stand for my principles and skip the event, where in five days I was expected to earn more than I do in a dozen of events combined."
Muzychuk will not get to re-live the high points (or low points) of last year's wins (Getty)
And therein lies the problem. Saudi Arabia are understood to have paid in the region of US$1.5m to host the tournament, which will be called the King Salman World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships. That fee is four times what the host usually forks out and the prize money at this week's event is many multiples of what players would usually expect to receive - particularly championship contenders like Anna.
Women are, according to local reports, being allowed to wear dark blue or black formal trousers and high-necked blouses, avoiding Saudi rules of dress that require female residents and most visitors to wear loose-fitting, long robes known as abayas. Most Saudi women also cover their hair and face with veils though the tournament organisers insisted on Tuesday that they are not requiring competitors to wear abaya.
But it is not just women who have had problems with the Saudi-hosted event.
The very fact that this country is hosting a world chess tournament for the first time is controversial domestically as it comes two years after the country's top cleric issued a religious edict against playing the board game. Saudi Arabia's top cleric, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, said in early 2016 that chess is "forbidden" in Islam because it wastes time and can lead to rivalry among players. Similarly, top Iranian clerics have also decried the game, saying it can lead to gambling, which is banned in Islam.

Then there are the political issues, with countries that are currently geo-political rivals of the Kingdom complaining they have not received visas to enter the country and compete.
Israelis say Saudi Arabia ignored requests by Israeli players to obtain visas to participate in the tournament, perhaps unsurprising given that Israel and Saudi Arabia do not have diplomatic relations. But Qatar and Iran have reported similar grievances. While the top three male players are all travelling for the tournament, many will be missing and the women's competition is still reeling from Muzychuk's withdrawal on Tuesday.
"All that other stuff is annoying, but the most upsetting thing is that almost nobody really cares," Muzychuk added in her Facebook post.
"That is a really bitter feeling, still not the one to change my opinion and my principles. The same goes for my sister Mariya - and I am really happy that we share this point of view. And yes, for those few who care - we'll be back!"

Another venue, the Fort Benning Airborne School, was very dangerous in 1968. My solution was to stay indoors at night. No one from another race assaulted me during my 3 weeks there. Chess players might do the same, and just stay inside their hotel.

Obviously no backhanders in Saudi, nor opportunity to bet on herself.
That's the real reason - you know the Ukrainians. They don't get out of bed unless there a backhander involved.

Well done Muzychuk it's a pity the others haven't followed you, other dress banns are on the wearing of a cross round the neck and on show it also applies to earrings that are crosses, Saudi Arabia is 99% Sunni muslim and their aim is to wipe out Christianity and Shiite muslims, so why do our politicians keep telling us they are good.

"So why do our politicians keep telling us they are good?" Because our politicians are in league with the Saudis and others to turn Europe Islamic.
Sorry if that sounds like a conspiracy theory. But before you vote me down, please say how else you would explain:
- Letting trained ISIS fighters back to live among us
- Failing to monitor (let alone close down) extremist mosques that turn out suicide bombers
- Allowing continued mass Muslim immigration so that their numbers are doubling every 12 years, and with it the number of jihadi attacks
- The politicians' poodle MSM howling down as a racist Nazi anyone who says Muslims becoming a majority in western Europe later this century isn't such a good idea.
They are not taking the most simple, obvious actions to protect indigenous Europeans and preserve European civilisation. And every single British politician except Anne Marie Waters sings from the same hymn sheet.
How else would you explain the observed facts?

And that explains why they are letting in trained ISIS fighters to live among us, does it?

So none of the cowards who voted me down will hazard their own explanation of why our leaders are intent on replacing western civilisation in Europe with Islam.
