Trees have been uprooted in the Mt Lofty Ranges, southern suburbs and coastal areas overnight, making the roads hazardous early on Monday. The State Emergency Service responded to about 80 call-outs between midnight and 7am, with areas affected including Wistow, Macclesfield and south to Port Elliot. “Certainly we’ve been really busy through the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Mt Lofty ranges,” SES spokesman Jon Carr said. He said the wind had also brought down powerlines in some areas, urging drivers to take care. “There have been lots of trees down so people need to be really careful on the roads this morning as they are heading to work,” he said. “They may be going around a corner and there’s a big tree that’s down. “That’s probably our greatest concern as more people wake and leave their homes this morning.” He expected crews to be called to several more jobs. “As people are getting up and coming outside, we are expecting to get quite a few more jobs come trough, particularly around 7-7.30am,” he said. The weather bureau has issued a severe weather warning for strong winds in the Mt Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and parts of the Adelaide Metropolitan, Yorke Peninsula, Murraylands and Lower South East districts. Northwesterly winds are expected to reach gale force at times, averaging 60-70 km/h with gusts of 90-100 km/h over the warning area for the next few hours. Towns that may be affected include Port Lincoln, Cleve, Minlaton, Kingscote, Strathalbyn, Victor Harbor, Robe and Millicent. Read our live blog below for all the details. More than 6,000 homes are blacked out right now, making for a cold and dark morning for many families. This includes about 1500 at Blakiston and Nairne, 1100 at Eden Valley, Mt Pleasant and Sprinton, 1000 in Aldgate, Bradbury and Mylor, 1000 at Oakbank and Balhannah, 700 at Mt Barker, 500 at Green Hills Range and Macclesfield, and 570 at Biggs Flat and Echunga. They need to now live the consequences now that the chooks have come home to roost. If..IF any of my taxes are used to prop up Arrium, I will diligently strip and pillage other areas of the SA economy. FlagShare LikeReply John T John T 21 minutes ago You see on one hand the State Government wanted to save money by using importing steel for its projects in the first place, but it would have been much cheaper and job creative to have used Arium's product in the first place, wouldn't it? Apart from Arium, I didn't see them jumping up and down when Port Stanvac closed down? We are becoming a 'nothing' country, no cars, no oil refinery, and soon no steel. This is all due to our labor laws and work practices; unionization of a country. Why therefore are our house prices skyrocketing? Mr T ignored the homeless in his Budget, and his Government are creating more and more on a daily basis. There is no reason at all to use tax payer money to support private enterprise. In fact the first thing the government should do is take the submarine contract away from SA.
