KRG: Iraq won’t follow UN suggestions to solve dispute

09.06.2014 Mewan Dolamari BasNews, Erbil The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Assistant Head of Department of Foreign Relations (DFR) Dindar Zebari pointed out that Iraq’s federal government will not solve the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad. In a press conference Zebari addressed the suggestions put forward by the UN in regards to the Erbil-Baghdad dispute: “the UN’s suggestions for solving the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, especially regarding the oil case, federalism and revenue distribution is that Baghdad has to follow the implementation of a federal system as well as solve the budget and oil issues with Kurdistan Region.” On June 5 the UN asked the federal government of Iraq to solve the ongoing internal issues, specifically oil and budget, by negotiating as well as adhering to the country’s federal system. “Kurdistan Region cannot follow international decision, it is Iraq as a country that must follow the decisions of the UN and solve the problems,” said Zebari. “The UN has been asking the federal government to follow the constitution and federal system for seven years, especially the 2007-2008 treaty agreements where 97 countries agreed and asked Iraq to have a clear system of federalism and clear and fair policies on oil and budget in five years, yet Iraq has not followed the agreed terms and they will not follow them,” added Zebari. Regarding the US’ stance on the disputes, Zebari said: “The US stance is to solve the disputes through dialogue. I am sure that the federal government of Iraq won’t solve the disputes because this is not the first time that the US has asked Iraq to solve its internal issues.” is on it's way :-) http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20140609-705736.html ISTANBUL--Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region shipped a second cargo of oil from Turkey's Ceyhan port on Monday, doubling the amount of crude it has exported since late May, even as the fate of a first shipment remains unclear amid legal threats from Baghdad. ================ http://www.iraqoilreport.com/business/companies/new-exxon-turkey-contracts-bolster-kurdish-export-plans-12482/ New Exxon-Turkey contracts bolster Kurdish export plans A night view of the rig drilling ExxonMobil's Maseif-1 well at the Pirmam block in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region. Such a move by Exxon is a clear sign of how things will pan out for Kurdistan and its oil.
