Adnoc set to hire 2,500 Emiratis Florian Neuhof Jun 26, 2013 Abu Dhabi National Oil Company is preparing to hire 2,500 Emiratis as electrical or mechanical engineers as part of the wider efforts by the emirate to increase the number of nationals in the workforce. Related ■ Emiratis tell of success in private sector jobs ■ Search on for Emirati engineers Topic Adnoc Emiratisation The company yesterday announced a cooperation agreement with the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council and the Abu Dhabi Vocational and Training Institute that allows unemployed nationals to register for a course that will qualify them to work at Adnoc. "Adnoc is working to find solutions to the challenges of employment of Emiratis through establishing effective direct channels of communications with academic institutions," said Mohammed Shleyeih Al Qubaisi, the director of human resources at the company in a statement carried by the government news agency Wam. Adnoc and its subsidiaries are planning to employ 4,000 Emiratis next year, according to Wam. The oil company will select nationals registered with the Tawteen Council for the foundation courses at the Institute. Dates for the courses have yet to be determined. Government-owned companies in Abu Dhabi have been instructed to increase the number of Emiratis on their payroll, as the emirate looks to minimise unemployment among nationals. Government officials have warned that the public sector will be heavily burdened by Emiratisation efforts, as nationals shy away from private sector work. The number of Emiratis in government and semi-government jobs could increase fourfold to 352,000 by 2030, according to the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development. Adnoc is in the midst of efforts to push up oil production capacity from the current 2.8 million to 3.5 million barrels per day, and is active in boosting the emirate's gas supply.
